I don't usually review compilations or Tributes, and in fact I haven't reviewed anything in some time.. but when I got this beautiful double disc project in the mail I had to review it immediately.. being that it is a double disc set and features many different artists I'm going to review them ONE track at a TIME! so here goes

DISC 1
1. Lying Delilah - Within You
I love the fact that this starts off with a beautiful female voice, not to mention a small little toy sounding keyboard mixed into the intro. I remember Bowie performing for a 9/11 benefit using only a small childs keyboard.
The vocals are more of a recital over a hard edged industrial beat, but truely groovy. A great way to start off the project.

2. The Dresden Dolls - Life On Mars
It's the Dresden Dolls do I even really need to talk about how amazing this track is.
I think Bowie would truely be proud.

3. The Brides - John, I'm Only Dancing
Iron Butterfly coldnt' have done this track any better. We've got rockin' bouncy happy keyboards and an amazing singer doing his best BOWIE impression but keeping his own style throughout. This band is probably one of the happier bands you'll hear on this project.

4. Revue Noir - Rock N Roll Suicide
Ok now I was really excited to see this song on the tribute.. It's one of my favorite Bowie tracks.. and when I heard a truely smoke drenched soulful female voice moaning it out I was NOT disapointed. Beautiful version of the song and when it kicks in just like the original I wan to stand up and scream "YOU'RE NOT ALONE!"

5. Fashion Bomb - I'm Afraid Of Americans
I think this band did more of a tribute to TRENT REZNOR with this track than a bowie tribute, either way it's hardcore and actually musically much better than the original!

6. The Metrosexuals - Andy Warhol
Now how can you sing ANDY WARHOL and not have fun!
This is a truely groovy retro sounding romp throughout a rockin' song.. I think this guys vox are some of my favorite on the album.. kinda like BLUR on good drugs!

7. Mr Russia - Boys Keep Swinging
Imagine the WHITE STRIPES with a very sore throat and distorted bass guitar!
Pretty groovy garage rock version of this song!

8. Kaligare - Look Back In Anger
This version of Look Back in Anger makes me want to drive really fast
Sorta like RADIOHEAD tackling BOWIE!

9. Sheriff Scabs - Savior Machine
I'll warn you it kicks you in the teeth!

10. Emulsion - Warszawa
Sorry not a huge fan of instrumentals but it takes talent so I respect it!

11. Hearts Fail - The Man Who Sold The World
This is kinda like a warm fuzzy spot to stop and take a break during the record!
They do a great job of the song and it's so pleasent to listen to!

12. The Danger - Hang On To Yourself
A very RAMONES meets DeVO version of the song In my opinion.. definately keeps the Bowie Spirit!

13. High Blue Star - Fashion
This song rocks ass no matter who does it
the music in this version is superb.. a great mix of electronic and smooth voice! beautiful!

14. Lyan Smith - You Belong In Rock N Roll
Now this guy rocks it out even if it does remind me of Motorhead's Orgazmotron

15. Egostatic - Fame
I think one of the worst covers of this song was MARILYN MANSON's I DON'T LIKE THE DRUGS BUT THE DRUGS LIKE ME!
This band kicks Manson's ass hardcore!
(sorry for the direct stab at manson for ripping this song off)

16. Haitian Hate Gods - Little Wonder
I actually like this version MUCH more than the BOWIE version.. prob due to the amazing female vox! I love women ya know!

17. Tides Of March - Scary Monsters Super Creeps
A stellar stomp through a classic!
Each band on this project impresses me!

DISC 2
1. Voltaire - China Girl
Clever musical arrangement and a much better singer than IGGY POP!

2. Meg Lee Chin - Heroes
Meg always does an awesome job with her covers!
This is much better than THE WALLFLOWERS version!

3. David J's Cabaret Oscuro - Time
I worship DAVID J so I was really hoping I'd like this and dont' worry I FUCKING LOVE IT!
It's vaudeville style just like the original and as smooth as a cold glass of JACK DANIELS!

4. Starlit - Modern Love
This is probably my favorite track on the whole damn tribute!
I'm not even going to explain why!

5. Flutter - As The World Falls Down
Poppy, yet mellow and gentle with a soft beautiful Madonna type voice.. just as beautiful as the singer.

6. Jupiter Blue - Space Oddity
I'm very happy with the cover of Oddity
It's not a straight forward carbon copy.. they truely make it their own.
The guy does a good job of not copying Bowie's voice as well but still has the bowie feel!

7. Press - Sound And Vision
Strange song in the first place.. of course it needed a strange cover!
Good one for the dance floor!

8. Count Zero - Golden Years
Get stoned and listen to the original GOLDEN YEARS and you're on the right track with this one.. I absolutely love the delivery of the vox on this one!

9. Sibyl Vane - I'm Deranged
The strings in this remind me so much of the film PSYCHO!

10. Ahab Rex - The Hearts Filthy Lessons
AHAB REX is my HERO
And even though I love the original version of this song (imagining the credits rolling backwards to the movie SE7EN) But after hearing AHAB convert it into one his.. I'd swear he wrote it!

11. Terminal Bliss - Rebel Rebel
Listen close you'd almost not recognize rebel rebel in this.. and that's awesome all covers should be this way!

12. Abbeyvein - Quicksand
Slow Gothic Love!

13. Museum - Ashes To Ashes
Reminds me of THE CURE with Bowie singing
So that's a good thing!

14. Milk OF Karave - Be My Wife
Typical Noisy Techno

15. Amorette - Oh You Pretty Things
Happy and Pretty
I like this a lot!

16. Schlechtes Mard-bumsen - Cracked Actor

Imagine ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB doing this song without being so produced and radio friendly.. kinda noisy!

So I can honestly say I absolutely loved this tribute album. And look forward to reviewing other FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE releases in the future!
